Pennsylvania School Board Ready to Make Peace with Police Department

AMBRIDGE, Penn. – After refusing to provide security at a football game last year, borough police may be able to reach an agreement with the Ambridge Area School Board.

Last year, the Ambridge School Board decided to hire only five officers to patrol the high school football games at Moe Rubenstein stadium and use security personnel from a private company to fill the gaps. Previously, 13 officers supervised most home football games, and 15 officers were deployed when the district played against Aliquippa. Police officers considered the decision a safety hazard for all parties involved and refused to supervise the game.

Board President Bernard Logan announced that at next week’s meeting, the board will consider asking the police to see if they will provide security in the upcoming academic year. According to him, the district wants full control of the content and makeup of campus security.

Zadock Dismuke, an Ambridge police officer, said the department would be willing to discuss a compromise with the board.
