Patient Accuses Nurse of Sexual Assault

Published: May 21, 2012

SEATTLE, Wash. — A patient at Swedish Hospital’s First Hill campus accused a nurse of sexually assaulting her during a pregnancy exam.

The patient told her husband that the male nurse performed a painful pelvic exam by putting his fingers inside her vagina, and that both the door and bedside curtain were closed, SeattlePI.com reports. When the woman’s husband complained to medical staff, he was told nurses do not perform pelvic examinations, according to police.

The woman and her husband went to the police on April 26 after the hospital found no evidence of misconduct during its internal investigation. The hospital declined to give the detective records of the investigation. A Superior Court judge agreed to issue a search warrant.

The investigation is ongoing.
