NEW YORK, Middle school teachers across the nation are being told to watch for signs that their students may be participating in “pass out” games.
These games – also called Space Monkey, Knockout, Black Hole or the Choking Game – involve children choking themselves with a rope or belt and then loosening the grip just before they lose consciousness, triggering a head rush. Children do this on their own or with the help of friends.
According to Newsweek, scores of children have died or become brain damaged because of this practice.
Teachers are being advised to watch red eyes or bruises on a child’s neck, which are signs of the game.
