Parents of high school students in an Allegany-Limestone (N.Y.) school are voicing their frustrations to the community and the school board with what they believe to be is a safety concern: an autistic student.
The autistic sophomore received national attention last year after reports surfaced of allegations of the student being forcefully restrained as a sixth grader. The New York Times published a report on his parents’ complaints in 2008. The case is currently awaiting a federal court ruling.
A group of parents believes the school has not been proactive in dealing with the student’s outbursts and other behavior associated with his disorder. Several parents voiced their concern over the school treating the student lightly in view of the court case, reports The Buffalo News.
The school board assured parents that all students are safe and appropriate action would be taken if any student poses a serious threat to others.
