Published: February 7, 2006

FOLSOM, Calif. – The Center for Digital Education has released a new strategy paper in coordination with Alcatel on the topic of cybersecurity in higher education.

Cybersecurity on Campus: Balancing Academic Freedom, Open Networks and Secure Computing investigates the security of data within university networks and proposes “how to” steps for university decision-makers and IT executives to develop and implement better security plans.

The paper leads readers through an identification and discussion of what assets and functions are the most important to protect within a university security environment. The paper also offers a checklist to help institutions develop an IT security plan and a step-by-step process to follow to complete these goals. The paper poses a strategy to help your organization or institution balance the three issues broached in the title: academic freedom, open networks and secure computing.

The paper can be downloaded online at www.centerdigitaled.com.
