Oregon Schools Discontinue Safety Hotline

Published: March 24, 2006

SALEM, Ore. – The Oregon School Safety Hotline was shut down March 15 due to lack of continuous state funding.

The hotline, which was run by the Oregon Department of Justice and Department of Education, was an anonymous, 24/7 system where callers could report illegal, suspicious or other questionable activities at all Oregon schools. It was funded by a U.S. Department of Education grant.

Illegal, dangerous or suspicious behavior will now need to be reported to the school’s principal or assistant principal. Emergencies should be reported to 9-1-1.
