Oklahoma Student Found Guilty for Plotting Mass Shooting and Bomb Attack

Published: September 24, 2013

BARTLESVILLE, Okla.— A Bartlesville High School student was found guilty of planning to cause bodily harm through a mass shooting and bomb attack at his high school, Fox News reported. The jury recommended a 30-month prison sentence and $5,000 fine.

Sammie Eaglebear Chavez pleaded not guilty and said he was joking when he explained to other students how a shooting and bomb attack could be deployed at the high school.

A student informed school officials about the plot after Chavez tried recruiting classmates. Officials notified police who then arrested Chavez. He was found with notes that said “those who deserve to die will be killed,” and that those who survive “will be forced to witness it,” according to the Bartlesville Examiner-Enterprise.

No one was injured.
