University in Ohio Names Director for Public Safety and Security

Case Western Reserve University created the position as part of an effort to better coordinate its campus safety programs.

Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland has named an executive director for public safety as administrators revise the school’s security programs.

Frank Demes, who has served as the interim chief, was named to the permanent position on October 29.

Demes will head the university’s Police and Security Services department, which offers services such as A.L.I.C.E. training for active shooters, self-defense classes and escort services in addition to patrolling the campus 24 hours a day, according to its website.

The department also has dispatch, emergency management and facilities security divisions. The university recently combined those divisions and added a number of new positions, including Demes’ director position.

Demes has been with the department for 26 years and is also assistant chief of the George Washington University Police Department.

Case Western Reserve also created the Executive Director for Police Community Relations position, which was filled by Police Chief Arthur Hardee.
