The office of New York State Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli has completed 216 school audits in 2008 in an effort to meet the audit deadline for all public schools and Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). The deadline for the audits is March 2010.
A report released by the comptroller’s office summarizes the problems found within the schools. Of the findings, auditors discovered weaknesses in the security of districts’ information-technology systems in 95 audits (44 percent) completed in 2008.
Nearly 550 schools have been audited since 2005. About 200 more schools are currently in the auditing process.
