St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport, Conn., continued to allow a nursing assistant to work there for three months after a patient alleged the man had raped him. Police have now arrested the nursing assistant for sexually assaulting another patient.
Gonzalo Flores, who has worked at the hospital since August 2011, was charged Nov. 25 with raping a male patient in March. He was already awaiting trial for allegedly assaulting another patient in June, the Connecticut Post reports.
The hospital’s director of safety and security, Joseph Laveneziano, told police he had known about the first incident, but took no action because he could not substantiate the patient’s claim. The patient contacted police after hearing of the second assault, which allegedly occurred in June.
Flores admitted to the June assault and also told police he has had sexual encounters with other patients.
