ROCHESTER, N.Y. — About 14 Guthrie and Corning Hospital patients have filed a lawsuit against the facility, claiming that a registered nurse may have reused syringes and exposed patients to HIV, and Hepatitis B and C.
The lawsuit, which also names the registered nurse, states that Corning Hospital, Guthrie Health Care System and Guthrie Medical Group were negligent in training and supervising the nurse, whose name is unknown, WHEC.com reports.
The incidents occurred between Oct. 15, 2012 and Jan. 29, 2013. The law firm representing the plaintiffs says that patients are still waiting to see if they were infected by the syringes. Additionally, the law firm says there is a possibility the number of plaintiffs could grow.
For its part, the healthcare facility has encouraged all its patients that received notification about the reused syringes to undergo follow-up testing.
