N.J. Hospital Employees Suspended for Viewing Clooney’s Medical Records

Published: October 10, 2007

NORTH BERGEN, N.J. – Several Palisades Medical Center staff members have been disciplined for inappropriately viewing actor George Clooney’s medical records.

Clooney, 46, was treated at the hospital for a broken rib and scrapes he sustained in his Sept. 21 motorcycle accident. His girlfriend, Sarah Larson, 28, who was also a passenger on the bike, sustained a broken foot and was also treated at the medical center.

There are conflicting reports as to the exact number of Palisades personnel disciplined. A local news station reported that as many as 40 employees, including doctors, were suspended without pay for taking a peek at Clooney’s records and possibly providing details of his injuries and treatment to the press. Another local publication said that 27 employees, none of whom were doctors, had been disciplined for only viewing the records.

The union representing some of the workers is investigating the incident. A spokesperson for the union said the nurses and other staff members may have been authorized to read Clooney’s records and that the hospital rushed to judgment.
