N.J. Campus Security Bill Clears Senate Panel

TRENTON, N.J.
Published: May 4, 2009

The Senate panel has cleared a bill that would create uniform system for comprehensive campus security reviews for all New Jersey colleges and universities.

The Lampitt measure (A-634) would require schools to file with state homeland security and higher education officials comprehensive five-year campus security plans that identify a baseline of preparedness for all potential emergencies.

Among its provisions, the legislation would require security protocols to clearly define delegation of authority and lines of administrative succession, identify and provide for the protection of vital records, and assign procedures for periodic tests, according to PolitickerNJ.com.

The bill passed the Assembly in June 2008 and will now head to the full Senate for vote.
