DEKALB, Ill. — Three months after the dismissal of its former police chief, Northern Illinois University (NIU) announced Tuesday that it would begin searching for a new leader for the campus police force.
University authorities fired Donald Grady in February, following allegations that he mishandled a sexual assault case involving a former NIU officer. The school plans to start interviewing candidates in July, with the goal of having a new chief in place by the beginning of the fall semester, the Daily Chronicle reports.
NIU officials said they were unaware if the university’s acting police chief Darren Mitchell was interested in a permanent position.
