DEKALB, Ill. – The Northern Illinois University (NIU) Public Safety Department has added 16 full-time officers to its team, bringing the total to 59 full-time officers on campus.
Security officers have also been hired. They will mostly serve on a late-night bus service.
The security upgrade is the result of the Feb. 14 shooting at Cole Hall by 27-year-old Steve Kazmierczak, a former NIU graduate student. Kazmierczak killed five students before committing suicide.
