LUBBOCK, Texas – A 4-day-old infant was abducted June 4 by a woman who claimed to be a nurse.
The suspect, who goes by the name Lisa Stewart, befriended the child’s mother while she was in the hospital. The suspect asked for the mother’s address and offered to give the new mother some baby clothes and a swing.
According to authorities, the woman asked to take the child to her brother’s, but the mother refused. She instead went along, bringing her son, age 2, with her.
As all four were returning, the suspect took the baby while the mother was distracted by her son.
According to officials at University Medical Center, Stewart is not an employee, nor is anyone at the hospital familiar with the woman.
The baby has jaundice, weighs 5 ½ pounds and requires medical attention.
