Many schools across the nation have been receiving hoax threats in the past week.
On Monday, several K-12 schools in Southern California cancelled classes due to threats that were later determined not to be credible, reports NBC Los Angeles. Those campuses include Damien High School in La Verne, Our Lady of the Assumption School in Claremont, and Bishop Amat High Schools in La Puente, as well as other campuses in Compton, Alhambra, San Dimas, and Covina, reports ABC7.
In Northern California, law enforcement investigated bomb threats made against four unidentified private school campuses in Dublin and Freemont on Monday. Local police searched the campuses but found nothing, reports the Mercury News.
In Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, the Bethlehem Central School District received an anonymous bomb threat on Wednesday, prompting a lockout of its campuses, reports the Times Union. Police searched the schools and found them to be safe, so the lockout was lifted at 11:25 a.m. In response to the threats, local law enforcement increased their patrols of campuses during Wednesday’s dismissal.
In New York, law enforcement is investigating bomb threats received Wednesday at several school districts across the state, reports WNYT. Many of the threats were received by campuses in the Capital Region, although the specific schools that have been targeted haven’t been identified.
Only two days earlier, all Southampton (New York) School District campuses were evacuated in response to a threat that was sent via email, reports News12. On Monday, at about 10:30 a.m., the district received an email saying multiple devices had been planted and would go off at some point on Monday. However, that threat was later deemed not credible.
The same day that Southampton SD evacuated its campuses, Ben Franklin Elementary and Scott Elementary Schools in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania were evacuated due to bomb threats, reports Local21News. Harrisburg Police swept both campuses but didn’t find any threats.
In Montgomery County, Maryland, Blair High School received a threat, not only on Friday but Monday as well, reports Fox5DC. Both incidents prompted local police to search the campus, only to find no threat.
The FBI is investigating this latest rash of hoaxes.
