NEW YORK – Thirteen patients were transferred to other units after a fire set the seventh floor of Mount Sinai Medical Center aflame Mar. 7.
A space heater started the blaze that cleared the neurosurgical intensive care unit and attracted 106 firefighters and dozens of fire trucks. The patients were transferred after nurses on the eighth floor spotted smoke.
Officials report no patients were injured, but two firefighters were. Normal hospital operations were resumed once firefighters gained control of the situation after an hour and a half.
