TRENTON, N.J. – A former student of Westminster Choir college was indicted June 27 for causing the death of Justin Warfield, a freshman at the college, by injecting the victim with heroin.

Kieran Hunt, 20, was indicted on one count of strict liability, a first-degree offense, for Warfield’s death. Additionally, he was indicted on one count of distribution of a controlled substance, which is a third-degree offense. If he is convicted, Hunt faces 20 years in prison for the first-degree crime and three to five years for distributing the drug.

Around 5 a.m. on Oct. 17, police received a phone call regarding an unresponsive male at an apartment building. When police arrived at the scene, they performed CPR on Warfield and the student was taken to the University Medical Center. Warfield was pronounced dead on arrival.

Prior to his death, Hunt had injected heroin into Warfield’s right arm in a campus parking lot, according to police. The victim passed out, and Hunt, along with another individual, drove Warfield to the apartment building where he was laid out on a futon. The pair then drew markings on him.
