Nevada Supreme Court Rejects Officer's Alcohol Defense

MINDEN, Nev.

The Nevada Supreme Court has upheld the firing of a Nevada school official in a unanimous ruling.

Douglas County School District security officer Greg John was suspended after being accused of unprofessional behavior, including making racial and sexual remarks about students and staff members, according to the Las Vegas Sun.

John was also accused of sexually harassing a female teacher and taking confidential student records.

The security officer then attempted to sue the district claiming the suspension infringed on his free speech rights and violated the Americans with Disabilities Act. According to the Las Vegas Sun, the officer argued that his alcoholism constituted a protected disability. District Judge David Gamble ruled in favor of the Douglas County School District.
