Published: April 10, 2011

OMAHA, Neb. — The head of safety and security at Creighton University Medical Center (CUMC) has stated that the hospital has proper security measures and procedures in place after a shooting that took place in the facility on April 6. Matt Shaw said the shooting, which occurred in the facility’s lobby, could not have been prevented.

According to police, Anthony Green Jr., 27, and Otis Holford, 30, were fighting in the hospital’s lobby when Green opened fire, KETV 7 reports. Authorities were able to capture Green in less than a minute, thanks to the hospital’s strict procedures for a shooter incident, said Shaw.

CUMC has nearly 100 security cameras on its premises, as well as emergency phones and security guards on duty 24 hours a day. The hospital, according to Shaw, will continue to review its safety procedures.
