An inmate receiving treatment at a Nebraska hospital managed to leave the building before being arrested March 29.
Police say Justus Peltier, 19, evaded corrections officers and hospital security to escape Fremont Health Medical Center before attempting to get away in a nearby car, according to the Fremont Tribune.
Peltier was restrained when he started running away from officers, exiting through the hospital’s front doors and jumping into a parked vehicle in a parking lot across the street. The inmate allegedly attempted to convince the driver to leave the scene, but the driver refused. Peltier was taken back into custody shortly after.
After being dispatched to the scene at 4:36 p.m., responding authorities found Peltier face down in the parking lot in the custody of two corrections officers.
“He was not being compliant with rules, and our staff had to use force to gain compliance,” says Brian Styskal, Saunders County Jail director. “Prior to this situation he wasn’t facing that much (jail time), but now he has added four big charges to his resume.”
Peltier was originally arrested for violating terms of probation and for failing to appear in court.
After his attempted escape, he was charged with felony third-degree assault of an officer, felony escape, criminal mischief, disorderly conduct, disturbing the peace and assault with bodily fluids.
