N.Y. District Expands SRO Unit
BUFFALO, N.Y. – Buffalo Public Schools (BPS) has expanded its School Resource Officer (SRO) unit as a result of concerns from students, parents, teachers and school administrators.
The expanded unit consists of the chief of school safety and security, one lieutenant and 10 SROs. Additionally, two off-duty officers have been assigned to Bennett High School and East High School, respectively, according tow WIVB.com.
Some of the unit’s duties include:
- Responding to calls for service at BPS schools and facilities
- Patrolling areas surrounding schools
- Monitoring arrivals and dismissals of students
- Assisting BPS security personnel and administrators with removing disruptive students
Additional support includes a BPS supervisor, three attendance teachers, a nurse and a school psychologist.
