Convicted murderer Jeffrey Bolden, 41, has been sentenced to life in prison for killing a Cox North Hospital security officer in August 2008.
Bolden was convicted for the second-degree murder of Monte Ruby after he kicked the officer in the back of his neck causing him to die. His sentence will be served concurrently with a seven-year sentence for second-degree assault of medical personnel, reports News-Leader.com. Bolden’s attorney has filed an appeal for a new trial in the state’s appeals courts.
Ruby had been trying to restrain Bolden, a patient at the hospital, on Aug. 2, 2008, when he was struck in the head. Bolden, who was receiving treatment after being bit by a police dog, was handcuffed to the bed during the attack. His attorney claims the officer died of a stress-induced stroke.
