Mother, Son Found Dead in Suspected Murder-Suicide at Ariz. Hospital

Police said they suspect the mother snuck a gun into the hospital, which does not allow firearms in the facility.

A woman with a history of alleged child abuse was found dead with her son in an Arizona hospital room after an incident police are investigating as a murder-suicide.

Lola Griffin, 27, was discovered dead from a gunshot wound with her unresponsive five year old son in the child’s hospital room at Cardon Children’s Medical Center Nov. 7. The son was later pronounced dead and ligature marks were found around his neck.

Detectives believe the mother snuck a gun into the hospital and used a piece of medical tubing to strangle her son, according to abc15.com. The boy, Helious Griffin, has not undergone an autopsy and no cause of death has been confirmed for either person.

The woman’s records with the Arizona Department of Child Safety show allegations of child neglect, abuse and improper living conditions. DCS had met with Griffin as recently as Nov. 5 and was going to file a petition with a court requesting officials monitor the family.

The hospital, which does not allow firearms in the facility, was never locked down.
