NORRISTOWN, Pa. – The mother of the 14-year-old boy who planned a Columbine-style attack on a Pennsylvania high school has been charged with buy three guns for her son.
Michele Cossey, 46, bought her son, Dillon, a .22-caliber handgun, a .22-caliber rifle and a 9 mm rifle with a laser scope at a gun show Sept. 23. Court papers document that Cossey provided authorities with the receipt of the purchase.
Upon searching the teen’s room, police found the 9 mm rifle. The teen stated that the .22-caliber guns had been stored at a friend’s home.
Cossey was charged with corruption of a minor, unlawful transfer of a firearm, possession of a firearm by a minor, endangering the welfare of a child and two counts of reckless endangerment. She is not accused of aiding the teen in planning the attack.
Frank Cossey, the teen’s father, tried to buy a rifle for his son in 2005. However, because he was a felon, he was not allowed to make the purchase.
The teen was shackled at a brief court appearance Oct. 12. Prosecutors and the public defender’s office agreed to hold the teen until they are done with his psychiatric evaluations.
