SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Charges against a patient at Cox North Hospital who allegedly kicked a security officer in the back of his neck, which resulted in the officer’s death, have been upgraded to second-degree murder and felony murder, according to News Leader.
Jeffrey Bolden, 41, attacked Monte Ruby, who was trying to restrain the patient, on Aug. 2. At the time, Bolden’s wrists had been handcuffed to his bed; however, he managed to kick Ruby in the back of the neck causing severe injuries to the officer’s brain stem. Bolden was being treated at the hospital because he been bitten by a police dog after he tried to run from police.
Additionally, Bolden faces charges of assault on a law enforcement officer. If the case goes to trial, the suspect could be convicted of second-degree murder or both felony murder and assault on a law enforcement officer.
