Many University of Missouri (UM) students and administrators are opposing a House of Representatives’ bill that would allow qualified students to carry concealed and loaded guns on college and university campuses.
The House amended the bill, HB668, in April to allow concealed weapons on campus. If the bill passes, gun owners would have to follow strict rules and receive training from a certified instructor from the National Rifle Association (NRA) in order to carry their weapon at colleges and universities.
According to a survey conducted by the Missouri Students Association, 76 percent of UM students oppose concealed gun carrying on campus.
According to the Brady Campaign, legislation for concealed guns on campus has failed in every state except for Utah. In 2004, Utah legislation allowed guns to be carried at public colleges and universities.
