Missouri College Arms Security Officers

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University security officers will now carry guns as a result of a unanimous vote by the university’s board of directors.

Evangel Director of Security Gene Thomlinson said the guns are just a precaution, as the campus does not normally experience many problems, according to KSPR.

The start-up costs for the program will be $20,000. To offset that cost, a $10 per year security fee will be implemented.

Currently, Evangel security officers do not have arresting powers. In the event of an extreme emergency, they will still be required to call Springfield police for back-up.
