MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis city police officers will replace park police as security in the Minneapolis School District, according to the Star Tribune.
The district will have 14 liaison officers, a sergeant and a part-time lieutenant during the school year. Additionally, the district will employ two full-time officers year-round with a budget of $868,537. Park police submitted a proposal for $902,706.
However, park police are not thrilled about the decision. Park commissioners believe that it makes more sense to employ park police because they see the students during the summer months.
Both city and park police note that it is important for law enforcement to develop relationships with students.
