Minn. Nurses Vote for Open-Ended Strike at 14 Hospitals
MINNEAPOLIS—Thousands of nurses at 14 Minnesota hospitals have voted to approve another strike.
As many as 12,000 nurses went on a one-day strike June 10 to demand an increase in hospital staffing and no pension cuts, according to the Associated Press.
Eighty-four percent of nurses with the Minnesota Nurses Association voted to authorize an open-ended strike on June 21. It was not immediately clear when the strike would begin; however, nurses must give the hospitals a minimum of 10 days’ notice but could strike anytime after that.
The hospitals believe the union’s staffing proposals are very expensive and unnecessary, but they are willing to discuss certain conditions.
