Gwinn Area Community Schools in Michigan announced plans to improve its security infrastructure July 15.
Video surveillance cameras and entrance security systems will be installed in the district’s schools as part of a $.4.4 million bond given to the school in May, according to uppermichigansource.com.
“With what’s going on in the world today you can probably never have too much security, but you want to have optimal security so that you can see what’s going on, but not break the bank doing it,” District Director of Finances and Human Resources Anthony Filzetti says.
In total, 117 cameras will be installed in each of the district’s three school buildings. The majority of the cameras will be indoors, although some will be installed to capture outdoor areas of trouble.

In addition to the cameras, 23 keyless entry systems will be put in the entrances of the schools. The systems will allow employees to track who is entering and exiting the school. The high school will also have a buzzer entry system.
The installations will begin immediately and are expected to be completed by the end of September.
The district has two elementary schools and a school that teaches 6th through 12th grades.
