A student sustained minor injuries after being shot in his dorm room in western Michigan early Sunday morning.
The shooting occurred around 2:30 a.m. at Davenport University following an altercation between two groups of people in a residence hall.
The dispute involved two students and four non-students. One of the non-students fired the shot, which went through a wall and hit a student who wasn’t involved in the fight, according to the University Herald. The suspects left the scene before responding officers arrived.
Now campus and local police are reviewing card reader records and surveillance footage in the dorm.
“We have pretty thorough coverage with cameras,” says Matt Miller, the executive director of risk management at the university.
University officials immediately notified students and their emergency contacts of the shooting via emails, texts and automated phone calls.
The victim of the shooting was briefly treated at a local hospital and released.
