A gunfight near an outdoor basketball court at a Carol City High in Miami left two male teenagers, who weren’t students at the school, wounded Thursday afternoon. Miami-Dade police have one adult male suspect in custody after he was arrested at the scene. Police were searching for a second adult male as of Friday morning.
One of the victims was reported to be in serious condition, and the other one is in critical condition after being airlifted to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, according to the Miami Herald. One of the victims went into the high school seeking help after being shot and was treated.
SWAT trucks, police helicopters with search lights and police dogs went through the area looking for the second suspect Thursday night. Now, police say they have a lot of witnesses to interview in the investigation.
Carol City High was reopened Friday morning, but police closed off the north side of the school for the ongoing investigation.
With about 400 students inside, Carol City High was placed in lockdown Thursday until 6 p.m., and night events at the school were canceled. Carol City Middle School and the Barbara Hawkins Elementary School, which are located in the neighborhood, were also placed in lockdown, affecting 275 students.
