Mexican School Opens U.S. Branch

EL PASO, Texas  — Tecnologico de Monterrey — which has 33 college and preparatory school campuses throughout Mexico — has opened its first U.S. branch. The El Paso campus caters to Mexican families that have fled their native country because of ongoing violence.

Tec de Monterrey is looking at other possible sites in Texas cities, The Bellingham Herald reports. In recent years, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, Houston and other cities have attracted a large number of immigrants fleeing violence in Mexico.

Since 2010, 10 students crossing between Juarez and El Paso have been shot and killed on the Mexican side of the border. Two of those students attended the University of Texas at El Paso.
