Medical Devices Not Targeted By Network Viruses − Yet
SAN ANTONIO — While computer virus experts have yet to document a direct electronic attack on medical devices, the collateral damage of viruses have affected the medical community.
The HITECH Act is a driving force behind networked medical devices, CMIO reports. The number of viruses on the Internet and those capable of entering medical device systems are exponentially increasing each year, which makes networked medical devices more vulnerable.
The medical community should take the proper steps to safeguard its medical networks and networked medical devices, according to Axel Wirth, a healthcare solutions architect at Symantec, during his presentation at the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation conference and expo on June 25.
