AKRON, Ohio — A man shot his wife of 45 years in the intensive care unit at the Akron General Medical Center in what police believe may have been a mercy killing.
Barbara Wise was shot by her husband, John, on Saturday and died the next morning, the Associated Press reports. Before the shooting, she suffered triple cerebral aneurysms and was left unable to speak.
John had reportedly told a coworker that he and his wife had agreed they never wanted to become disabled in a nursing home.
