Man Faces New Charges in 1998 Dorm Fire
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The attorney for a man indicted on charges of manslaughter and arson Sept. 22 said that his client did not start a dorm fire at Murray State University that killed a student.
Jerry Wayne Walker was indicted on charges of manslaughter, arson, assault and 14 counts of wanton endangerment for his alleged involvement in a fire that killed Michael Minger in 1998, the Associated Press reports. In 2001, a jury deadlocked over whether to acquit Walker of murder and arson; a mistrial was declared.
The fire prompted significant changes in campus fire safety in the state of Kentucky.
