Man, 88, Shoots Wife, Self at New Jersey Hospital

TOMS RIVER, N.J. – An 88-year-old man shot and killed his ailing wife at Community Medical Center, then turned the gun on himself Oct. 10, according to Fox News.

The man, who suffered a gunshot wound to the head, was in critical condition. He was airlifted to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. As for his wife, it was not immediately clear what the 87-year-old woman was being treated for in the hospital.

Officials are not sure if the shooting, which took place around 12:20 p.m., was intended to be a mercy killing.

The woman’s roommate was in the room when the incident occurred. The woman was unharmed.

The hospital was placed under lockdown for 10 minutes, as police tried to determine whether or not others had been injured.

The names of the married couple have not been released.
