Macon State U. to Start Police Department This Fall

MACON, Ga.—Macon State College plans to have its own police department when classes start in the fall.

The new public safety office will include campus security, parking and the police, according to 13WMAZ.com. The department will also provide 24-hour police detection to the school’s seven residence halls.

Prior to the new department, campus officials relied on Bibb County Sheriff’s Office for situations the school couldn’t handle. Additionally, some law enforcement officers worked part-time on campus.

School officials hope to have the department running by Aug. 1.
