L.A. County probation officials have proposed the construction of a juvenile mental health hospital in Sylmar, Calif. The facility, which would cost $5-$10 million, is intended to improve mental healthcare in the troubled juvenile justice system.
The proposal would make it possible to transfer incarcerated juveniles who are held in 24-hour isolation into a clinical setting, according to The Los Angeles Times.
The building of the mental health hospital has not yet received funding and it is unclear when the proposal will be presented to county supervisors.
