A 17-year-old female is in stable condition after being shot by an unidentified gunman in the parking lot of a Louisiana high school August 11.

The shooting occurred around 10 p.m. near the front entrance of Northside High School in Lafayette. Lafayette Police say the gunman fired several shots and then drove off in a model brown sedan, according to klfy.com.

The victim was with friends when the shooting began and tried to run away but was struck by a bullet in the arm. She was also hit by a car leaving the parking lot shortly after the shooting.

The teen was eventually treated by emergency personnel and taken to the hospital. She is expected to make a full recovery and return to school this week.
