A Kansas City man awaiting trial in three court cases was apprehended after escaping the hospital that was caring for him just after midnight on Tuesday.
Despite being in leg shackles, 25-year-old Willie Sanders II managed to evade the prison guard accompanying him and get 30 blocks away from the Truman Medical Center before being caught by Kansas City police over seven hours later, according to kansascity.com.
Sanders, who is being held at Jackson County Detention Center, used the stairwell to exit the hospital. Hospital security notified county officials and Kansas City police immediately when they realized what happened.
One of the cases Sanders was being held for includes allegations of kidnapping, burglary, domestic assault and armed criminal action.
