Intense Hail Storm Injures 4 Students

Published: April 8, 2010

Four Grinnell College students out for a run had to be taken to the hospital after they were caught in a hail storm April 6.

The students, two men and two women, decided to hide in a ditch to hide from the storm; however, when the hail became too intense, they were forced to seek shelter, reports KCCI.com. The group also feared that they might drown as water started flooding into the ditch.

Red welts covered the students’ bodies as a result of the pounding hail. The students were taken to the hospital, where one was X-rayed to check for broken bones. All were treated and released.

Some students from the Grinnell High School boys’ soccer team were slightly injured during the storm.
