Indiana College Hires First Female Police Chief

Julie Yunker will serve as Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne's new police chief.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. – Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne has hired its first female chief of the university police department.

Julie Yunker has nearly 20 years of experience in front-line law enforcement and criminal justice instruction, Wane.com reports.

With a master’s degree in criminal justice administration and bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, Yunker has experience ranging from narcotics investigations and hostage negotiations to uniformed operations and youth anti-violence programs.

Yunker plans to meet with her staff in the coming weeks to determine what needs to be done. Many officers have already requested more training, while others on campus want officers to give them more training.
