BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Indiana University Police Department is due to receive a multifunctional text-based wireless communication system in all of its squad cars in an effort to have the new time-saving software and laptops in place by August 23.
Developed by BioKey Mobile Cop, the new system will allow wireless communication between dispatchers and officers as well as instant access to national and state crime databases from all of the department’s squad cars. According to department officials, the new system is a welcome relief from the tied up lines officers face from the field while dispatchers look for files.
After it is installed, the system will allow officers to access everything they need, including radios for backup and two-way text messaging, from wherever they are located.
According to the department, the Toughbook laptops are the same ones used by the military and are waterproof and weather resistant. The department is looking forward to using the new system, which they expect will save critical time in emergency situations.
