OXFORD, United Kingdom – University security discovered two incendiary devices, four large plastic containers filled what appeared to be petrol and bags of a pink material all believed to be part of an arson attempt by animal rights extremists.
University staff discovered the firebomb materials at Templeton College, part of the University of Oxford, after reading an anonymous claim on the Internet boasting of an attack on the college Feb. 18. Found Feb. 26, college officials aren’t sure if the materials went unnoticed since the original claimed date or more recently. Surrounding colleges were evacuated until the area could be secured and the materials collected.
The tip-off was discovered on the Animal Liberation Front’s Biteback Web site. The claim boasted that “this latest action is part of an ongoing fight against the University of Oxford and its continued reign of terror over the unseen victims inside its animal labs.” Previous arson incidents have been committed against the university by animal right activists.
