Illegal Aliens Could be Banned from Virginia Colleges
Virginia — Legislators will be considering a bill introduced by Delegate Christopher Peace to amend state law to ban illegal immigrants from Virginia’s public two-year and four-year institutions. Similar amendments have been previously considered — most recently in 2008 — but have not been passed.
Currently, Virginia’s public universities may determine whether or not to admit illegal aliens, as long as those students are required to pay out-of-state tuition. Policies vary between schools, The Associated Press reports.
The bill is not unprecedented: South Carolina closed its public colleges to illegal immigrants and Alabama banned undocumented student from attending community colleges.
Peace told the news source that a uniform policy would help to remove incentives for those entering the country illegally.
