Ice Storm Closes Massachusetts Schools
WORCESTER, MASS.
Public schools in Worcester, Mass., and surrounding areas were closed by local emergency declarations after a devastating ice storm left more than 400,000 homes and businesses in six states without power.
Due to road conditions and possible downed powerlines, a spokesperson for the Massachusetts Emergency Management Agency said it was too dangerous for children to travel to school.
A state of emergency was declared in New Hampshire and in nine of Massachusetts’ 14 counties by President George W. Bush. The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is directed to provide relief assistance, according to ABC News.
