Published: May 1, 2008

WASHINGTON – On April 18, the International Association of Campus Law Enforcement Administrators (IACLEA) released its final report on the Virginia Tech tragedy. This task force was a joint effort between IACLEA and the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) University and College Police Section.

Throughout the report, the task force identified 20 recommendations. According to the organization, “[Each recommendation] represent(s) the priorities for the betterment of campus safety and reinforce key goals and objectives in mitigating and responding to threats at institutions of higher education.”

The recommendations are divided into three categories: “Emergency Planning and Critical Incident Response,” “Empowering and Resourcing the Campus Public Safety Function” and “Prevention and Education Programs to Address Campus Safety Risks.” According to IACLEA, the propositions are not designed to be all inclusive; rather, they represent best practices that campuses should consider and implement.
